Who is Laura JW?
I started up ‘Discovering Devon’ after getting quite a few people asking about the walks I do, wanting more information on them. I also enjoy taking photos in my spare time and sharing these on social media, but I felt they needed a home of their own. It then felt natural for me to put two of my favourite hobbies together onto one big blog for everyone to enjoy.
Living in Exmouth, by the sea, I love nothing more than enjoying the beautiful walks around Devon. From coastal walks to countryside rambles, you’ll find me out exploring Devon (and beyond!) in my free time. As well as walking, we love trying out new pubs and cafes, and enjoy a bit of geocaching too, so I try and mention if we visited anywhere memorable for lunch or did a great geocaching series whilst on our walks.
Despite us recently losing our beloved dog, Amber, (who featured in a lot of previous posts on here) any dog owners out there will appreciate that almost all of the walks and places we visit are dog friendly, and I’ll always state whether they’re suitable or not for dogs. We also recently welcomed our daughter into the world last year, so she joins me on all my walks as well as my partner Jo, when he’s not working (He’s also very much to thank for putting this site together. Thanks Jo!) . We normally use a baby carrier when out walking, but try to post a variety of walks and will say if a walk is pushchair/wheelchair accessible as well as child friendly.
Before our baby came along, I was usually found carrying my camera gear, that’s all taken a bit of a backseat at the moment, but I’m hoping to get back into it all again soon! I usually shoot with my trusted canon 450d (and my favourite 50mm lens!) and sometimes shoot with my 50d too.
